Again the mention of helps to cover the costs because of those who don't pay on time - PENALTY!

Estimated 50p to process non direct debit payments.

Also bringing in cancellation charges - yet another penalty.

Early day motion signed 83 MP's brought in by David Hamilton (Midlothian) MP.

Template letters on bbc site on this subject.

Gavin Patterson (Comically Angie's son obviously going off this interview). We've reduced line fees for non direct debit payers.....oh er yes we reduced it for direct debit payers aswell - MUPPET!

Apparently Brit Gas backed down on fiver fee after enough complained.

    Hi all,

    Beat me to it!

Excellent piece by the Watchdog Team. Our 'friend' Gavin was sooooo embarrassing to watch and yes, I did think he was one of Comical Angie's sons!

Copied and pasted letter below (with addresses) as links on BBC website sometimes move!

    [YOUR ADDRESS]

[ADDRESS OF COMPANY – list of company addresses are below]

    Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to protest about your penalty charge for customers who do not pay by direct debit.

I think this charge is unfair and does not reflect the true cost of processing my payment. It seems to me simply a way of increasing your revenue.

Provided I do so on time, it is my right to pay my bill however I choose. Why should I pay more just because I don't use your preferrred payment method?

I urge you to reconsider this unreasonable charge. But if you insist on continuing with it, I would expect you to demonstrate that the charge is justified. You will be aware that the law says penalty charges must be fair.

I do not believe that this is the case with yours, but look forward to hearing your explanation.

    Yours faithfully,

Actually doesn't it say that they are irrecoverable or am I now being pedantic?

    Spot on!

    Unlawful and irrecoverable they are.

Hope you like my new Avatar. I though Comical Angie might like to get into the spirit of things!

    Childish, I know!
