Hi all,

Well am I glad I’ve found you guys. I had presumed due to recent news articles that the whole possibility of being able to reclaim bank charges was dead in the water (well for the time being anyway)
Having read some of the posts it is looking like this is not the case. So I suppose I am here to ask for a bit of advice really.
First of all let me bring you up to speed with my situation.
In July of this year I received a list of all my charges from the Halifax. The total came to about the £1200 mark over the previous 4 years. It took well over 40 days for me to receive this information. I’m pretty sure they are in breach of something here. But the documents requested arrived and my primary concern was the charges, not picking a fight with the bank over there delay.
2 days later every single news channel is leading with the story – “Banks taken to court over unfair charges” the detail of the story basically informed customers that the banks would be putting all claims on hold while this was dealt with in the courts at a higher level.
I therefore gave up in my quest.

I have now found this forum and it looks like things are still going ahead at consumer level ?
Should I still continue my claim ??
Is this forum really a ray of light at the end of a very long dark and wet tunnel ?? lol

All comments and advice greatly appreciated.

It’s a pleasure to be here.

Jonny

And it's a pleasure to have you here jonny - welcome!! (btw your first post appears to be duplicated - so i have deleted one!!)
These are difficult and confusing times at the moment, Yes we are still having some success - but each one is a hard fought battle. Have a good look around the forum - especially at the threads dedicated to the OFT action. Their action is scheduled to start on 14 Jan 2008 - the outcome, well who knows right now!
You have the choice of starting your court claim (following the appropriate letter before action) or waiting until the OFT case is concluded. If you have no charges you are about to lose to the 6year limitation rule - that may make your choice easier. This may put you at the front of the "traffic jam" when things start moving again. It will - in all probability - result in your case being stayed! Or you register your claim with the bank (with the letter before action) but wait..........
Only you can decide I am afraid - we have no magic wand, I wish we did!
Whatever your decision we will support you all the way!!
